The Dirty Picture,Story of Silk,Played by Vidia

The Dirty Picture is a 2011 Indian biographical film based on the life of Silk Smitha, an actress noted for her erotic roles. The filmmakers, however, have stated that the story is not officially and literally based on Smitha alone, but also on many of her other Southern contemporaries like Nylon Nalini and Disco Shanti, and even resembles the distressing personal lives of other women in popular culture, including Hollywood actress and sex symbol Marilyn Monroe (Click on Read More) 
The film was directed by Milan Luthria and co-produced by Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor, after Ekta came up with the idea and asked screenwriter Rajat Aroraa to pen a story based on it.
The team had also worked together earlier on the 2010 hit film Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai, and this is their second venture together.

The Dirty Picture released worldwide on December 2, 2011 (the birth anniversary of Smitha) in HindiTamil andTelugu versions. Vidya BalanNaseeruddin ShahTusshar Kapoor and Emraan Hashmiplayed lead roles in the film. Upon release, the film received both critical and commercial success, with Balan receiving maximum accolades for her performance and being called "the hero of the film". In addition, the film has also received widespread note for portraying women as powerful and      as contributing something unique to a typically male-dominated society.

Vijayalakshmi known popularly as Silk Smitha, was an Indian film vamp artist who worked predominantly in the South Indianlanguages, and was noticed mainly for her erotic roles. She entered the film industry as an extra actress, and first got noticed for her role as "Silk" in the 1979 Tamil filmVandichakkaram. She became a sought-after 'erotic actress' in the 1980s and in a career spanning 17 years, she appeared in over 450 films in TamilMalayalamTeluguKannada andHindi languages. On September 23, 1996, she was found dead in her apartment in Chennai, apparently having committed suicide.
